Apply now for the 2018 UCLA Summer Research Program in Beijing & Shanghai, China

UCLA students in sciences, engineering, and health sciences are eligible for a 12-week program to participate in advanced research in science or engineering while gaining valuable international experience during the summer quarter at Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

"I have participated in several summer research programs, but none of them has been as special as the UCLA-PKU JRI SRP. What made it so special was the combination of exciting research projects and knowledge paired with a unique cultural experience in a foreign country. From the day I arrived, all members of the group and PI were extremely attentive and caring. It was an unforgettable, unique and enriching experience that translated into a personal expanded world view and a stronger desire to know what else is out there in the world.” - Jesus L., ‘17 cohort

Program description

This twelve-week program is designed for UCLA students to participate in advanced research in science or engineering while gaining valuable international experience during the summer period. The first two weeks will consist of language and cultural learning experiences at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Students then travel to Peking University (PKU) where each participant joins a research lab full-time with PKU faculty and graduate student mentors to work on a jointly designed project. Throughout the week students take Chinese language and cultural classes. On weekends and evenings, students also have the opportunity to go sightseeing in and around Beijing.
